Thanksgiving 2005

5

Once again we are reminded that one must be flexible when cruising. We had planned to spend Thanksgiving in the Virgin Islands but find ourselves still in Fajardo, Puerto Rico with a Turkey in the oven. Mind you that we are not complaining as this is a great spot with fabulous weather. Our delay in moving on was caused by a sizable hole that was discovered in the dry stack exhaust. At first we thought the soot problem in the engine room was caused exclusively by a failed gasket in the exhaust pipe but the hole was discovered when the gasket was replaced. We are fortunate to have a very good mechanic and the needed section (wrinkle belly) has been fabricated and will be installed over the weekend and we will be on our way.

We had a real surprise this past weekend when we heard some one knocking on our door. We had to do a double take as we discovered our friends Brad and Lorraine from Mystic, Ct standing on the dock. Brad was here on business and because they are true boaters (Serenity) their first stop in Fajardo was the marina. While taking in the sights of a marina with 1,000 slips they could not help but notice the grey beast with the black stack among all the pristine sport fishing boats. We were thrilled to see them and enjoyed dinner and margaritas with them. It was fun to hear all the news from back home and we hope to meet up with them in the BVI this winter.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our family and friends.
